INORGANIC ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMISTRY

Project 1

Assessing and monitoring the water quality of local water bodies to ensure environmental safety and health. We use several analytical techniques, ICP-MS, IC, HPLC, GCMS to detect and quantify the contaminants in surface water, waste water, and industrial waste.

ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMISTRY

Project 2

Exploring adsorption & desorption study of nanomaterials and their use to reduce environmental contaminants from soil and water. We characterize the adsorbent by XRD, BET surface analysis, SEM images, FTIR & RAMAN Spectroscopy, and Elemental analyzer. We are currently exploring the removal of fire-retardant chemicals from water bodies. We analyze the adsorption mechanism by conducting several kinetic & thermodynamic studies.

COORDINATION CHEMISTRY

Project 3

Investigating synthesis, characterization, and several applications of novel metal coordination complexes using 3d and lanthanide metals. Application of such coordination complexes includes smart magnetic materials, metal-based anti-cancer drugs, metal-DNA nanostructures, and mimicking biologically active sites. We synthesize metal complexes and characterize them using FTIR, Elemental Analyzer, Electrochemistry, 1H & 13C NMR, UV-Vis spectroscopy. Through our collaboration we perform single crystal X-ray crystallography, circular dichroism and magnetism analyses.
